The Senthamil font is a typeface designed by Sankaralingam, Madhusudhanan for the Latin script. Chankyan fonts are the first typefaces used in southern India (and Tamil Nadu) for communication. It's very similar to Sharada, which was designed by Sri Sharada Mahadevi Bhatkhande and was used in communication throughout India. The font has its roots in Grantha Script which was used for writing Sanskrit, Pali and Tamil language over two thousand years ago. Senthamil is built around few simple shapes like circles, triangles and parallelograms. It requires minimum training to become a master in reading the letters. The characters are a little unusual for a Latin script, but all of them can be learned within few minutes. Reading Senthamil is relaxing and relaxing to the eyes unlike the conventional Latin script, which has been derived from Greek and Roman alphabets. To create Senthamil font from Gubbi Thirunaal's Tamil font, the designer followed a process that included splitting each character into parts and modifying them using Inkscape software that draws vector graphics. In July 2016, Sankaralingam started working on a new version of Senthamil Font. The font is called Senthan, the first font family that features both - Tamil and Devanagari (Indian) scripts to work on computers, tablets and mobile phones. The first version of the font was launched at the Kuala Lumpur meeting of TAMIL TYPOGRAPHY GROUP (TTYG) by Sankaralingam at the end of May 2017.
